New York Bakeshop

Many people from New York have been asking exactly what is a bakeshop.  A bakeshop is a bakery (also called baker’s shop or bakehouse) is an establishment which produces or/and sells bread, pies, pastries, cakes & cupcakes, biscuits, cookies, muffins, rolls, pretzels, doughnuts, and other baked goods prepared by bakers.  Bakeshop mostly is a New York moniker for bakery, a time honored tradition brought from European bakeries in the 16 and 17th centuries.  Today they take on many versions the most common being dessert bakeries and the like.  Common items you will find at a bakeshop include: cookies (chocolate chip, butter cookies, russian tea cakes, black and white cookies), handmade pastry, dessert bars (lemon bars, etc…), brownies, cakes (blueberry, lemon), scones, and other specialized products.  Lately the trend has been to make the cookies as good as they can be for you.  Most are preservative free, transfat free, handmade or made from scratch.  Many have mail order bakery items and mail order desserts which also can be delivered by delivery carrier.

Other parts of the world do contribute to the history of bakeshops.  One we will highlight is the Jewish Bakeshop.  They create items such as Jewish Pastry, Rugelach, Matzoh, and Passover Baked Goods and Desserts and Mandel Bread.  Specialized versions of many of these items are available in New York City.  A few we have found that are unique include the Blueberry Buckle, the Big Apple Crackle, Chocolate Covered Matzoh, and the Matzoh Crackle.

This of course is just a short list of the variety you can find.  To see more please visit the blogroll links and visit our friends online.  Let them know you found them through New York Bakeshop.com, I’m sure they will appreciate your patronage!
